physician
In the United States, doctors are either an MD (allopathic doctor) or DO (osteopathic doctor). They are similarly educated and certified, but there are differences in their training and philosophy of patient care. The osteopathic philosophy involves treating the mind, the body, and the spirit. It’s a more holistic approach and focus on the body’s ability to heal. In order to become a Family Physician MDs and DOs must complete four years of medical school and three years of residency in Family Medicine.
physician assistant
PA stands for Physician Assistants. PAs are experts in general medicine and must take a test in general medicine in order to be licensed and certified. They must graduate from an accredited two-year PA program and pass a certification exam. Like physicians, PAs must complete extensive continuing medical education throughout their careers.
